CVSS v3.1 |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
rxrpc: Fix recvmsg() unconditional requeue
If rxrpc_recvmsg() fails because MSG_DONTWAIT was specified but the call at
the front of the recvmsg queue already has its mutex locked, it requeues
the call - whether or not the call is already queued. The call may be on
the queue because MSG_PEEK was also passed and so the call was not dequeued
or because the I/O thread requeued it.
The unconditional requeue may then corrupt the recvmsg queue, leading to
things like UAFs or refcount underruns.
Fix this by only requeuing the call if it isn't already on the queue - and
moving it to the front if it is already queued. If we don't queue it, we
have to put the ref we obtained by dequeuing it.
Also, MSG_PEEK doesn't dequeue the call so shouldn't call
rxrpc_notify_socket() for the call if we didn't use up all the data on the
queue, so fix that also. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
powerpc/eeh: fix recursive pci_lock_rescan_remove locking in EEH event handling
The recent commit 1010b4c012b0 ("powerpc/eeh: Make EEH driver device
hotplug safe") restructured the EEH driver to improve synchronization
with the PCI hotplug layer.
However, it inadvertently moved pci_lock_rescan_remove() outside its
intended scope in eeh_handle_normal_event(), leading to broken PCI
error reporting and improper EEH event triggering. Specifically,
eeh_handle_normal_event() acquired pci_lock_rescan_remove() before
calling eeh_pe_bus_get(), but eeh_pe_bus_get() itself attempts to
acquire the same lock internally, causing nested locking and disrupting
normal EEH event handling paths.
This patch adds a boolean parameter do_lock to _eeh_pe_bus_get(),
with two public wrappers:
eeh_pe_bus_get() with locking enabled.
eeh_pe_bus_get_nolock() that skips locking.
Callers that already hold pci_lock_rescan_remove() now use
eeh_pe_bus_get_nolock() to avoid recursive lock acquisition.
Additionally, pci_lock_rescan_remove() calls are restored to the correct
position—after eeh_pe_bus_get() and immediately before iterating affected
PEs and devices. This ensures EEH-triggered PCI removes occur under proper
bus rescan locking without recursive lock contention.
The eeh_pe_loc_get() function has been split into two functions:
eeh_pe_loc_get(struct eeh_pe *pe) which retrieves the loc for given PE.
eeh_pe_loc_get_bus(struct pci_bus *bus) which retrieves the location
code for given bus.
This resolves lockdep warnings such as:

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
scsi: target: Fix recursive locking in __configfs_open_file()
In flush_write_buffer, &p->frag_sem is acquired and then the loaded store
function is called, which, here, is target_core_item_dbroot_store(). This
function called filp_open(), following which these functions were called
(in reverse order), according to the call trace:
down_read
__configfs_open_file
do_dentry_open
vfs_open
do_open
path_openat
do_filp_open
file_open_name
filp_open
target_core_item_dbroot_store
flush_write_buffer
configfs_write_iter
target_core_item_dbroot_store() tries to validate the new file path by
trying to open the file path provided to it; however, in this case, the bug
report shows:
db_root: not a directory: /sys/kernel/config/target/dbroot
indicating that the same configfs file was tried to be opened, on which it
is currently working on. Thus, it is trying to acquire frag_sem semaphore
of the same file of which it already holds the semaphore obtained in
flush_write_buffer(), leading to acquiring the semaphore in a nested manner
and a possibility of recursive locking.
Fix this by modifying target_core_item_dbroot_store() to use kern_path()
instead of filp_open() to avoid opening the file using filesystem-specific
function __configfs_open_file(), and further modifying it to make this fix
compatible. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: add xmit recursion limit to tunnel xmit functions
Tunnel xmit functions (iptunnel_xmit, ip6tunnel_xmit) lack their own
recursion limit. When a bond device in broadcast mode has GRE tap
interfaces as slaves, and those GRE tunnels route back through the
bond, multicast/broadcast traffic triggers infinite recursion between
bond_xmit_broadcast() and ip_tunnel_xmit()/ip6_tnl_xmit(), causing
kernel stack overflow.
The existing XMIT_RECURSION_LIMIT (8) in the no-qdisc path is not
sufficient because tunnel recursion involves route lookups and full IP
output, consuming much more stack per level. Use a lower limit of 4
(IP_TUNNEL_RECURSION_LIMIT) to prevent overflow.
Add recursion detection using dev_xmit_recursion helpers directly in
iptunnel_xmit() and ip6tunnel_xmit() to cover all IPv4/IPv6 tunnel
paths including UDP encapsulated tunnels (VXLAN, Geneve, etc.).
Move dev_xmit_recursion helpers from net/core/dev.h to public header
include/linux/netdevice.h so they can be used by tunnel code.

| Axios is a promise based HTTP client for the browser and Node.js. Prior to 1.15.1 and 0.31.1, toFormData recursively walks nested objects with no depth limit, so a deeply nested value passed as request data crashes the Node.js process with a RangeError. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.15.1 and 0.31.1. |
| The load_pnm function in frompnm.c in libsixel.a in libsixel 1.8.2 has infinite recursion. |
| A flaw was found in libxml2, an XML parsing library. This uncontrolled recursion vulnerability occurs in the xmlCatalogXMLResolveURI function when an XML catalog contains a delegate URI entry that references itself. A remote attacker could exploit this configuration-dependent issue by providing a specially crafted XML catalog, leading to infinite recursion and call stack exhaustion. This ultimately results in a segmentation fault, causing a Denial of Service (DoS) by crashing affected applications. |
| A flaw was identified in the RelaxNG parser of libxml2 related to how external schema inclusions are handled. The parser does not enforce a limit on inclusion depth when resolving nested <include> directives. Specially crafted or overly complex schemas can cause excessive recursion during parsing. This may lead to stack exhaustion and application crashes, creating a denial-of-service risk. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
igc: Reduce TSN TX packet buffer from 7KB to 5KB per queue
The previous 7 KB per queue caused TX unit hangs under heavy
timestamping load. Reducing to 5 KB avoids these hangs and matches
the TSN recommendation in I225/I226 SW User Manual Section 7.5.4.
The 8 KB "freed" by this change is currently unused. This reduction
is not expected to impact throughput, as the i226 is PCIe-limited
for small TSN packets rather than TX-buffer-limited. |
| A denial-of-service (DoS) vulnerability exists in google.protobuf.json_format.ParseDict() in Python, where the max_recursion_depth limit can be bypassed when parsing nested google.protobuf.Any messages.
Due to missing recursion depth accounting inside the internal Any-handling logic, an attacker can supply deeply nested Any structures that bypass the intended recursion limit, eventually exhausting Python’s recursion stack and causing a RecursionError. |
| Avahi is a system which facilitates service discovery on a local network via the mDNS/DNS-SD protocol suite. In versions 0.9rc2 and below, avahi-daemon can be crashed via a segmentation fault by sending an unsolicited mDNS response containing a recursive CNAME record, where the alias and canonical name point to the same domain (e.g., "h.local" as a CNAME for "h.local"). This causes unbounded recursion in the lookup_handle_cname function, leading to stack exhaustion. The vulnerability affects record browsers where AVAHI_LOOKUP_USE_MULTICAST is set explicitly, which includes record browsers created by resolvers used by nss-mdns. This issue is patched in commit 78eab31128479f06e30beb8c1cbf99dd921e2524. |
| In some circumstances, when DNSdist is configured to allow an unlimited number of queries on a single, incoming TCP connection from a client, an attacker can cause a denial of service by crafting a TCP exchange that triggers an exhaustion of the stack and a crash of DNSdist, causing a denial of service.
The remedy is: upgrade to the patched 1.9.10 version.
A workaround is to restrict the maximum number of queries on incoming TCP connections to a safe value, like 50, via the setMaxTCPQueriesPerConnection setting.
We would like to thank Renaud Allard for bringing this issue to our attention. |
| Bundle Protocol and CBOR dissector crashes in Wireshark 4.4.0 to 4.4.3 and 4.2.0 to 4.2.10 allows denial of service via packet injection or crafted capture file |
| Zigbee TLV dissector crash in Wireshark 4.2.0 allows denial of service via packet injection or crafted capture file |
| The gst_riff_create_audio_caps function in gst-libs/gst/riff/riff-media.c in gst-plugins-base in GStreamer before 1.10.3 does not properly limit recursion, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (stack overflow and crash) via vectors involving nested WAVEFORMATEX. |
| In ims service, there is a possible system crash due to incorrect error handling. This could lead to remote denial of service, if a UE has connected to a rogue base station controlled by the attacker, with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation. Patch ID: MOLY01394606; Issue ID: MSV-2739. |
| MongoDB Server may experience an out-of-memory failure while evaluating expressions that produce deeply nested documents. The issue arises in recursive functions because the server does not periodically check the depth of the expression. |
| Secure Boot Security Feature Bypass Vulnerability |
| IBM Db2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows (includes Db2 Connect Server) 11.5.0 - 11.5.9 and 12.1.0 - 12.1.3 could allow an authenticated user to cause a denial of service using a specially crafted SQL statement including XML that performs uncontrolled recursion. |
| KaTeX is a JavaScript library for TeX math rendering on the web. KaTeX users who render untrusted mathematical expressions could encounter malicious input using `\edef` that causes a near-infinite loop, despite setting `maxExpand` to avoid such loops. This can be used as an availability attack, where e.g. a client rendering another user's KaTeX input will be unable to use the site due to memory overflow, tying up the main thread, or stack overflow. Upgrade to KaTeX v0.16.10 to remove this vulnerability. |
