CVSS v3.1 |
| HAPI FHIR is a complete implementation of the HL7 FHIR standard for healthcare interoperability in Java. Prior to 6.9.11, the JSON utility parser in org.hl7.fhir.utilities.json.parser.JsonParser enforces no maximum nesting depth for arrays or objects. As a result, a small but deeply nested, syntactically valid FHIR JSON document can trigger unbounded readArray() or readObject() recursion, raising a StackOverflowError before structural validation runs. An attacker who can submit JSON resources for validation can thus crash the request thread, and services that do not isolate StackOverflowError safely may experience worker loss or process instability — a denial-of-service condition. This issue is fixed in version 6.9.11. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
hwmon: (pmbus/adm1266) widen blackbox-info buffer to I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_MAX
adm1266_nvmem_read_blackbox() declares a 5-byte stack buffer and
passes it to i2c_smbus_read_block_data() to retrieve the 4-byte
BLACKBOX_INFO response. i2c_smbus_read_block_data() does not honour
caller buffer sizes -- it memcpy()s data.block[0] bytes from the
SMBus transaction (where data.block[0] is the length byte returned by
the slave device, up to I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_MAX = 32):
memcpy(values, &data.block[1], data.block[0]);
If the device returns any block length above 5, the call overflows
the caller's 5-byte stack buffer before the post-call
if (ret != 4)
return -EIO;
check has a chance to reject the response.
Widen the local buffer to I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_MAX so the helper has room
for any well-formed SMBus block response, matching the convention used
by the other i2c_smbus_read_block_data() callers in this driver. |
| SurrealDB before 2.2.2 with scripting enabled fails to properly enforce recursion limits when native functions contain embedded JavaScript that issues new queries. Authenticated attackers can bypass the recursion limit by chaining native and JavaScript function calls to trigger infinite recursion and exhaust server memory. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/amd/display: Validate payload length and link_index in dc_process_dmub_aux_transfer_async
[Why&How]
dc_process_dmub_aux_transfer_async() copies payload->length bytes into a
16-byte stack buffer (dpaux.data[16]) guarded only by an ASSERT(), which
is a no-op in release builds. If a caller ever passes length > 16 this
results in a stack buffer overflow via memcpy.
Additionally, link_index is used to dereference dc->links[] without
bounds checking against dc->link_count, risking an out-of-bounds access.
Replace the ASSERT with a hard runtime check that returns false when
payload->length exceeds the destination buffer size, and add a bounds
check for link_index before it is used.

| HAPI FHIR is a complete implementation of the HL7 FHIR standard for healthcare interoperability in Java. Prior to 6.9.11, XhtmlParser.java imposes no maximum element nesting depth, so a deeply nested text.div narrative triggers unbounded recursion between parseElementInner() and parseElement(), raising a StackOverflowError. An attacker who can submit FHIR resources containing such narratives can thus crash a parsing or validation worker thread, affecting validator services and any application that parses attacker-supplied FHIR JSON or XML. This issue is fixed in version 6.9.11. |

afs: Fix lock recursion
afs_wake_up_async_call() can incur lock recursion. The problem is that it
is called from AF_RXRPC whilst holding the ->notify_lock, but it tries to
take a ref on the afs_call struct in order to pass it to a work queue - but
if the afs_call is already queued, we then have an extraneous ref that must
be put... calling afs_put_call() may call back down into AF_RXRPC through
rxrpc_kernel_shutdown_call(), however, which might try taking the
->notify_lock again.
This case isn't very common, however, so defer it to a workqueue. The oops
looks something like:

| axios versions 0.31.1 before 0.33.0 and 1.15.1 before 1.18.0 contain an incomplete depth-limit bypass in toFormData.js when serializing objects with top-level keys ending in '{}'. Attackers who control object keys and nested values passed to axios form or parameter serialization can trigger a RangeError from JSON.stringify, causing denial of service in the affected request path. |
| Uncontrolled recursion in the unknown-key skip path of the aws-smithy-json runtime crate before 0.62.7, which the smithy-rs code generator invokes from every generated struct deserializer, might allow remote unauthenticated users to cause a denial of service (process abort via stack exhaustion) via a single small HTTP request containing deeply nested JSON to a smithy-rs generated server.
To remediate this issue, users should upgrade to aws-smithy-json 0.62.7 or later and rebuild. |

ksmbd: fix recursive locking in RPC handle list access
Since commit 305853cce3794 ("ksmbd: Fix race condition in RPC handle list

This causes hung connections / tasks when a client attempts to open
a named pipe. Using Samba's rpcclient tool:

$ rpcclient $> srvinfo

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
eventpoll: Fix semi-unbounded recursion
Ensure that epoll instances can never form a graph deeper than
EP_MAX_NESTS+1 links.
Currently, ep_loop_check_proc() ensures that the graph is loop-free and
does some recursion depth checks, but those recursion depth checks don't
limit the depth of the resulting tree for two reasons:
- They don't look upwards in the tree.
- If there are multiple downwards paths of different lengths, only one of
the paths is actually considered for the depth check since commit
28d82dc1c4ed ("epoll: limit paths").
Essentially, the current recursion depth check in ep_loop_check_proc() just
serves to prevent it from recursing too deeply while checking for loops.
A more thorough check is done in reverse_path_check() after the new graph
edge has already been created; this checks, among other things, that no
paths going upwards from any non-epoll file with a length of more than 5
edges exist. However, this check does not apply to non-epoll files.
As a result, it is possible to recurse to a depth of at least roughly 500,
tested on v6.15. (I am unsure if deeper recursion is possible; and this may
have changed with commit 8c44dac8add7 ("eventpoll: Fix priority inversion
problem").)
To fix it:
1. In ep_loop_check_proc(), note the subtree depth of each visited node,
and use subtree depths for the total depth calculation even when a subtree
has already been visited.
2. Add ep_get_upwards_depth_proc() for similarly determining the maximum
depth of an upwards walk.
3. In ep_loop_check(), use these values to limit the total path length
between epoll nodes to EP_MAX_NESTS edges. |
| cJSON through 1.7.19 is vulnerable to uncontrolled recursion leading to stack exhaustion when an untrusted RFC 6902 JSON Patch is applied via cJSONUtils_ApplyPatches() or cJSONUtils_ApplyPatchesCaseSensitive(). A patch containing add and copy operations grafts duplicated subtrees to amplify document depth beyond the parser's nesting limit: cJSON_Delete() recurses with no depth bound, and the cJSON_Duplicate() guard CJSON_CIRCULAR_LIMIT is set to 10000, ten times the parser's 1000-level nesting limit and high enough to overflow a default thread stack. An attacker who can supply the patch document can crash the process, resulting in denial of service. |
