In a successful attack, the attacker can only control the target file to be overwritten but not the content to be written into the file. Binary-Affected: podman Upstream-version-introduced: v4.0.0 Upstream-version-fixed: v5.6.1
CVE-2026-14164 3 Libarchive, Red Hat, Redhat 10 Libarchive, Enterprise Linux, Discovery and 7 more 2026-08-21 7.5 High
A double free issue has been identified in libarchive's RAR5 reader. During parsing of a specially crafted RAR5 archive, the filtered_buf pointer may remain stale after being freed during unpacking state reinitialization. Subsequent processing of another archive entry can trigger a second free of the same memory region, resulting in a double-free condition. Successful exploitation may cause applications using the vulnerable libarchive API to terminate unexpectedly, leading to a denial of service.
CVE-2025-49796 1 Redhat 16 Cert Manager, Discovery, Enterprise Linux and 13 more 2026-08-21 9.1 Critical
A vulnerability was found in libxml2. Processing certain sch:name elements from the input XML file can trigger a memory corruption issue. This flaw allows an attacker to craft a malicious XML input file that can lead libxml to crash, resulting in a denial of service or other possible undefined behavior due to sensitive data being corrupted in memory.
CVE-2025-49794 1 Redhat 15 Cert Manager, Enterprise Linux, Hummingbird and 12 more 2026-08-21 9.1 Critical
A use-after-free vulnerability was found in libxml2. This issue occurs when parsing XPath elements under certain circumstances when the XML schematron has the <sch:name path="..."/> schema elements. This flaw allows a malicious actor to craft a malicious XML document used as input for libxml, resulting in the program's crash using libxml or other possible undefined behaviors.
CVE-2026-15816 1 Redhat 8 Enterprise Linux, Enterprise Linux Eus, Hardened Images and 5 more 2026-08-20 7.5 High
A flaw was found in dracut. The die() error-handling function writes its message into a shell script under the initramfs emergency-hook directory without properly shell-quoting it. When the message contains data derived from the DHCP ROOT_PATH option, an attacker on the adjacent network who controls a rogue DHCP server can inject a command-substitution sequence that executes as root the next time dracut sources its emergency hook scripts during standard boot-failure handling.
CVE-2026-6893 1 Redhat 9 Dracut, Enterprise Linux, Enterprise Linux Eus and 6 more 2026-08-20 7.5 High
A flaw was found in dracut. A remote attacker on the adjacent network can exploit this vulnerability by providing specially crafted DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) options, such as a malicious hostname, to a system using dracut's legacy DHCP path. These options are improperly handled and written into temporary shell scripts without proper escaping, leading to command injection. This allows the attacker to achieve root code execution within the initramfs, potentially compromising the system's boot and network behavior.
CVE-2026-72693 1 Redhat 5 Enterprise Linux, Hardened Images, Hummingbird and 2 more 2026-08-20 7.8 High
`openvt -u` is intended to identify the owner of the current VT and then execute `login` as that user from a privileged context. In the documented `kbrequest`/init usage, the ownership test in `authenticate_user()` relies on `stat("/proc/<pid>/fd/0")`. `stat()` on `/proc/<pid>/fd/0` follows the symlink to the underlying TTY device node. As a result, `buf.st_uid` reflects the owner of the TTY node rather than the owner of the process holding the file descriptor. If the TTY owner returns to `root` or the getty owner after logout while an unprivileged process still has `fd 0` attached to that TTY, the check can incorrectly treat that process as belonging to the privileged console owner. Once that check succeeds, the `-u` path executes a passwordless login as the selected user. In the documented `kbrequest`/init deployment using `openvt -us`, this can result in passwordless `login -f root` on the spawned VT. This report establishes that privilege escalation path for that documented deployment; it does not claim equivalent reachability for deployments that do not use `openvt -u` from a privileged `kbrequest`/init path.

CVE-2026-15588 1 Redhat 5 Enterprise Linux, Hardened Images, Hummingbird and 2 more 2026-08-19 5.3 Medium
A denial-of-service and resource exhaustion vulnerability exists within the `GDBus` component of GLib. The `gdbusauth` authentication mechanism fails to enforce proper length limitations on data lines read from a client. An unauthenticated local or remote attacker can exploit this lack of input validation by sending excessively long streams of data, causing the application to consume massive amounts of system memory and CPU, potentially leading to a crash or system hang.
CVE-2026-18739 2 Popt-devel, Redhat 4 Popt-static, Enterprise Linux, Hummingbird and 1 more 2026-08-19 2.5 Low
A flaw was found in popt, a command-line option parsing library. An off-by-one error in the poptStuffArgs function, when repeatedly called by a host application or through deep alias nesting, can lead to corruption of internal program data. This corruption could potentially enable a local attacker to execute arbitrary code if the host application then unsafely processes the altered data.
CVE-2026-18508 2 Gnu, Redhat 6 Tar, Enterprise Linux, Hardened Images and 3 more 2026-08-18 4.4 Medium
A flaw was found in GNU tar. When extracting an archive with the --one-top-level option, hardlink targets are not confined to the designated top-level directory and may resolve relative to the extraction working directory. A crafted archive can create hardlinks that escape the intended boundary and, when combined with a preexisting symbolic link under the working directory, may allow writing outside that boundary during a single extraction.
CVE-2026-13757 2 P11-kit Project, Redhat 9 P11-kit, Discovery, Enterprise Linux and 6 more 2026-08-13 6.2 Medium
A flaw was found in p11-kit. The RPC message attribute parsing functions p11_rpc_message_get_attribute() and p11_rpc_message_get_attribute_array_value() form a mutually-recursive call chain with no recursion depth limit when processing nested CKA_WRAP_TEMPLATE, CKA_UNWRAP_TEMPLATE, and CKA_DERIVE_TEMPLATE attributes. An unauthenticated attacker with local access to the p11-kit RPC Unix domain socket can send a specially crafted request with deeply nested template attributes, causing stack exhaustion and crashing the p11-kit server process and its dependent services.
CVE-2026-18477 2 Gnu, Redhat 6 Tar, Enterprise Linux, Hardened Images and 3 more 2026-08-13 4.4 Medium
A TOCTOU (Time-of-Check Time-of-Use) vulnerability in GNU tar's incremental dumpdir 'X' rename handling allows a local attacker with write access to a directory being backed up to influence the restore process if the attacker has access to the system where the restore is being performed. During restoration, files or directories may be created, renamed or overwritten outside the intended extraction directory. This could lead to unauthorized file modification or, in some cases, privilege escalation. Exploitation does not require the attacker to modify or craft the archive, and standard backup and restore workflows—including extracting into a newly created directory without using the -P option do not mitigate the issue.
CVE-2026-15028 1 Redhat 3 Enterprise Linux, Hummingbird, Openshift 2026-08-13 3.9 Low
A flaw was found in libarchive. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to trigger a heap overflow by providing a specially crafted tar archive. The issue occurs during the parsing of a PAX extended header containing a malformed SUN.holesdata sparse-file attribute. Successful exploitation could lead to a denial of service, making the system unavailable, or potentially allow for arbitrary code execution, giving the attacker control over the affected system.
CVE-2026-55654 3 Openbsd, Openssh, Redhat 8 Openssh, Openssh, Enterprise Linux and 5 more 2026-08-12 3.7 Low
A flaw was found in OpenSSH. This vulnerability, a heap out-of-bounds read, occurs during the cleanup of GSSAPI (Generic Security Service Application Programming Interface) indicators when a trailing NULL termination is missing in the auth-indicators array. A remote attacker, under specific configurations involving GSSAPI authentication and a Kerberos environment, could exploit this to cause the SSH authentication path to crash or abort. This leads to a denial of service (DoS), impacting the availability of the SSH service.
CVE-2026-55655 3 Openbsd, Openssh, Redhat 8 Openssh, Openssh, Enterprise Linux and 5 more 2026-08-12 5 Medium
A flaw was found in OpenSSH. A local unprivileged attacker on a Linux client host can hijack client-side X11 forwarding connections. This is possible by pre-binding the preferred abstract X socket name when X11 forwarding is enabled and a local UNIX-domain X socket is used. A successful attack can compromise the confidentiality of forwarded X11 traffic, including sensitive window contents and input, and may allow some manipulation of the forwarded session.
